ABOUT LUCAS
Turning Heartbreak Into Hope
On August 4, 2023, our community suffered an unimaginable loss when 16-year-old Lucas Riley Crump and 18-year-old Avery Warwick were killed in a single-vehicle collision caused by extreme speeding.
There is no roadmap for grief of this magnitude. But from the deepest heartbreak, Lucas’ family, friends, and community made a promise:
Lucas’ life and his incredible potential will continue to make a difference.
What began as a gathering of love and remembrance has now become an annual bursary benefit - bringing people together to celebrate Lucas, support local students, and remind our community of the life-saving importance of slowing down on the road.
Each year, hundreds gather wearing red “Team Lucas” shirts and “Lucas Rocks” bucket hats to share stories, music, memories, and purpose.
It is a day filled with emotion, community, and connection - proof that even after tragedy, love can still grow.
A Bright Mind. A Big Heart. A Life Full of Potential.
Lucas was an extraordinary young man - funny, kind, smart, bilingual, and always willing to help others.
He was going into Grade 11 at North Park Collegiate and already dreaming about a future in mathematics, accounting, and French.
Lucas loved:
❤️ Math
❤️ French immersion
❤️ The Weeknd
❤️ Hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks
❤️ The colour red
❤️ Bucket hats
❤️ Slides (especially socks with slides!)
He was an honour roll student - not because everything came easily, but because he worked hard, encouraged others, and never hesitated to lend a hand.
He was Karen’s only child, and he was loved deeply by everyone who knew him.
Lucas had so much potential. So much ahead of him.
The Lucas Rocks bursary ensures that potential continues to inspire others for generations. Donate to the Lucas Rocks Bursary.
COMMUNITY IMPACT & REMEMBRANCE
Over the past two years, the Lucas Rocks benefit has brought together family, friends, neighbours, musicians, and generous businesses to celebrate Lucas’ life. Highlights include:
Live performances from The Schmoe Bros, Dan Carrillo & The Unborn Band, Corner Pocket, and 50 Mission
Nearly 30 raffle prizes, 50/50 draws, and door prizes
A sea of red “Team Lucas” shirts and bucket hats
Stories, laughter, tears, and memories shared
Every year, the event grows - proof of Lucas’ lasting impact and the community’s commitment to honour him.
“There are a lot of dark days, but keeping his memory alive like this gives us joy. It's not natural to bury your child. Hug your loved ones, slow down on the road, and remember it takes only a split second to change someone’s life forever.”
- Karen Crump
